Tenant Rights and Income Security with Paul Lagace
We all know housing is a challenge, but did you know that a local Poverty Law Advocate/Coordinator comes to the Library once a month to answer any questions you have?
Paul Lagace of The Prince Rupert Unemployed Action Centre will be available to talk about Tenant Rights and Income Security as well as being able to answer questions regarding:
- Landlord tenant Laws
- Employment Insurance
- Income Assistance
- Human Rights
- Disability Assistance
- Employment Standards
- CPP

Public Talk: The Impacts of Commercial Anchoring on Significant Benthic Areas
Next Tuesday, come to the library for a public talk on the impact of commercial anchoring, presented by Dr. Fiona Francis (DFO). This presentation is part of an ongoing research project that involves collaboration between the Government of Canada, Kitsumkalum, and Lax Kw'alaams.

Novel Ideas Auction!
Do you have a novel idea? Have you ever been inspired by a book to create something magical? You could donate a creation, craft, or culinary delight to the Prince Rupert Library for our Novel Ideas fundraising auction.
Please bring any donations to the library by Wednesday, November 5th.
Come ready to bid on uniquely crafted items inspired by beloved books!
Previous years have featured fabric arts, paintings, photography, home baked desserts, home preserves, zines and wellness packages.

Novel Idea Auction will be held Friday, November 7th, at 7 pm at the Lester Centre.

Traditional Ts'msyen Music with Jeremy Pahl
This event will be focused on traditional Ts'msyen music, the sound, the lyrics, and their meaning. Jeremy will showcase archival recordings, and teach participants how to access previews of these songs through the Canadian Museum of History.
This workshop will then discuss how to honour tradition while writing new songs, inspired by those that came before the influence of Western music and hymns.

Salmon's Future
Join Dr. Michael Price and explore the future of Pacific Salmon - how humans and climate change are reshaping their survival, and what conservation can do to sustain them.
Michael Price is an Adjunct Professor at Simon Fraser University and Director of Science for Skeena Wild Conversation Trust, where he works to advance evidence-based approaches to wild salmon conservation and recovery.
This event is free, registration is not required.

We've wrapped up with The Maze Runner series by James Dashner and are moving on to Animal Farm by George Orwell.

We are partnering with CMTN English professor Glenn Groulx for six free creative writing seminars! Each session will have a different subject. Choose the ones that interest you, or attend them all:
September 25th - Why write? Introduction to creative writing as a tool. - Done!
October 9th - Writing to learn for the classroom. Done!
October 23rd - Writing to build and curate a professional portfolio. Cancelled.
November 6th - Writing to interact and connect.
November 20th - Writing to heal and grow.
December 4th - Writing to build a personal voice.

Our free drop-in afterschool program is up and running again! We've got LEGOS, games, and arts and crafts to keep kids entertained. This program is for children grade one and up. Kindergarteners are welcome with an adult caregiver.

Knit & Crochet Social
Every Thursday afternoon the Library hosts a cozy group of crafters. If you knit, crochet, or have a similarly portable textile based hobby, you should come and try it out.
This is a social event for self directed individuals to bring their personal projects.

October was National Library Month, and we kept ourselves quite busy at the library. We got our Halloween display up and spruced up our Literacy Corner as October is also dyslexia awareness month.
We embraced the Spooky Season with a spooky reads contest and designated Blood on the Clocktower games night hosted by Mike Gruber. If you'd like to see more events of that nature, be sure to reach out and let us know!

Jeremy hosted his first events as Indigenous Storyteller in Residence, a screening of Sm'algya̱x language film 'Wa̱ts'a, as well as a Ts'myen Spooky Story Telling event.
We also had a Greg Stewart (children's author and two time paralympic gold medalist) came to our library to read from his children's book Stand Out.
Last, but certainly not least, Oldfield Hatchery has been in and out of the library this month preparing our salmon tank and then populating it with a fresh batch of coho eggs that will be hatching sometime this winter.
